Passage #468: 29 August 2018

Ascents and Sensibility

A bike ride is a bike ride, yes, but a bike ride is also a state of mind. It is a chance to take advantage of the freedom of mobility the bicycle provides, even when one moves beyond terrain where a bicycle can reasonably be expected to carry you freely. At that point, you are of course still on a "bike ride," even if the bike itself is more of a hindrance than a help and any riding is entirely out of the question. While your movement may not be free, it is nonetheless freeing.

More than one person in recent weeks has asked something to the effect of "have I missed any ridiculous hikes lately?" And sure, we've done a few — just enough, we would like to think — but if you feel that we should do more hikes and/or that they should be more ridiculous, well, you'd best not miss this one.
